Saturday February 18th was an event filled day that included a fashion show, film screenings, breakdancers, and numerous musical performances.

The fashion show, which was produced by Self-Explanatory Productions and featured the women's couture line by Diallo DeJaun, was a very classy touch that managed to keep all in attendance captivated. Check out the video for highlights of this spectacular day!
The film screening was equally as entertaining, including short films, music videos, and film trailers. This portion of the days events was an an opportunity to see many of the visual works by artists that have worked closely with Eklectyk Creative Media.

For the performances, we recreated the same love and energy from our event on the 11th. Flex Mathews, Enjay, Stoney Ashes of Project Lumens, and the Counter Attack B-Boys all came back to rock the spot. In addition, we had guest appearances by rising stars Born Infinite from Shambahla and acoustic performer The Dubber. As usual the set was managed by one of the areas most in-demand DJ's, DJ Nasian.
Elements In Style will continue with the weekend events, as we wind down to the close of our month-long exhibit this Friday from 7-9:30 and end the evening at Modern Nightclub from 11:00-3am.

Damien w/ Comedian Paul Mooney
Paul Mooney paid a visit to the gallery Friday afternoon as he prepared for a show with Dick Gregory at a local Washington DC theater.

Mr. Mooney was proud and honored to take a picture with exhibit curator Damien Coor in front of a larger than life airbrush portrait of his friend and fellow comedian, Richard Pryor, who recently passed in January 2006.

The Elements in Style Hip-Hop Art Exhibit continued to roll, as this past Saturday the 11th, Hip-Hop and art aficionados braved the weather to experience Hip-Hop in its purest form. The wintry mix of snow and sleet, nor the threat of a possible 7 inches of snow did not deter a raucous crowd eager to witness our performance aspect of the exhibit.

Click the image at left view a sampling of RaRah's photos from this event.
With guest appearances by Stoney Ashes of Project Lumens, Grey Matter of DPA and Enjay, the spectators were blessed with a true display of lyrical skills.

The already palpable energy was increased by the spectacle that was the Counter Attack Breakerdance Crew. Illustrating a level of bodily control and gravity defying movements, this Crew astonished on-lookers for most of the event. To add to the performance, our headliner, the fantastically ferocious Flex Mathews spit hot fire as he did his thing while he promotes his CD- "Flex Mathews, The Out Of Work Superhero a.k.a. the Handsome Grandson".
In light of the weather, this event was a true success and managed to portray the aspects of Hip-Hop that are truly tangible and easy to appreciate.

The Grand Opening of the Elements in Style Hip-Hop and Urban Art Exhibit was a huge success!
Members of the Washington Post, City Paper and Washington Times stopped through in addition to corporate sponsors and even a film crew! The works got the attention of all of the attendees and most of the guests were surprised at the amount of amazing work done in a show that has "Hip-Hop" attached to it.
"This is a truly amazing show! I had no idea that Hip-Hop could have such an influence on art like this," said Brad McCormick, a representative from Warner Brothers music group, as he stared in awe at Stacey's wood work.

From passers by and walk ins, to specially invited guests, the exhibit attracted a diverse and interested crowd that was able to appreciate all that they saw, regardless of their musical taste.

The catalogs gave everyone who attended an opportunity to read more about the impressive pieces lining the gallery walls.
The current group of artists will have thier work displayed until the 15th of February. At that point, we will have another group of talent to display their work until the close of the show.
